A little about me!!

When I posted the first blog I was so excited to write about my family and my mother in law was just excited and called to let me know.  Thanks Judy!  However, she was sad because I didn't write about myself. In all my excitement I completely forgot about me.  My good friend Emily has a blog and she wrote about the soundtrack to her life.  I related to this blog and have been thinking about my soundtrack and it has been fun. So, I thought I would steal her idea and write a little about myself! (thanks for the idea Emily!) Here goes:

The earliest I can remember liking music, or so my mom tells me, is as a toddler I would tap my feet to the beat of the music in the car and drive my brother Jason crazy enough he would ask my mom to turn the radio off.  However, I don't remember those songs my guess is 70's rock!

As  a young girl I remember my dad singing in the car.  The one song I remember singing along with him was Private Eye-Hall and Oats.  I remember clapping along and I can still see those white gloves from the video! My other music memories came from the I'm a Mormon record.  My mom made us sing that for a talent show.  Jason hid behind the curtains, Kinni hogged the microphone and I was too shy to make a scene so I stood there and sang like the good girl I was!  She also made my sister and I sing "When I grow Up I want to be a Mother".  I loved this record and wanted to listen to it all the time. If fact, I found the piano music and tried to teach Isabelle the mommy song too!   My other song I loved was, "I love to see the Temple" My grandma Morris lived across the street from the IF temple and I grew to love the temple.

As I grew up I discovered radio music.  I remember three records my dad bought and played quite often they were: The Cars, Huey Lewis and The News, and (brace yourselves) ZZ Top- She's got Legs! We sang this song all the time, but I didn't really like it.  I loved Huey Lewis though especially because they had a song for Back to the Future.  Next as a child my brother Jason bought the Michael Jackson record.  Loved this record, but I hated Thriller.  The scary mans voice at the beginning scared me and my brother knew it and played it as loud as he could!  Around fourth grade my sister and I loved the song, Bad, Bad, Bad, Boys By Gloria Estefan.  My sister, Cory Gossitt, and I loved this song and I am sure we knew all the words.  Next in the fifth grade I got my first boom box and the Cindy Lauper tape and loved the song True Colors.  I don't like most of the remakes to this song!  My dad still continued to by tapes and I remember sitting in the back of the car and singing Bad to the Bone, and Magic Carpet Ride with my sister.  I think we liked the songs but also loved to tease my dad about his Old music!

Junior High- I remember going to the noon dances and it was filled with songs from Def Lepord, Bon Jovi.  But I loved Debbie Gibson and sang her songs at the top of my lungs in my bedroom.  By the 9th grade my friend Tina introduced me to what was cool and what all the skaters were listening too like: Depeche Mode, R.E.M., Erasure.  I liked Erasure the best and my brother like these groups too so I really was cool!

High school my sophomore year was the grunge era.  Teen Spirit was great and everyone tried to smash into each other when we danced.  This was the sing in the car at the top of our lungs with my girlfriends. I remember driving in the car and singing Shinny Happy people with Emily Neider we were so good we sang parts!  500 miles (yes I do remember the socks Emms).  Just like all teenaged girls my friends and I knew all the songs and sang with gusto, we were good!

After High School I went through a huge Sara McLachlin stage.  Loved her, and still do. Ice Cream was a favorite and I remember going to her concert and the whole audience sang along, cool.  Now I love her song she did for Charlotte's Web, "Ordinary Miracle".

I never thought I would ever in my life listen to country music, until my beloved husband introduced it to me.  That's what I get for marrying someone from Blackfoot, ID!!! When we were dating the song, "I Swear" was popular and it just sort of became our song because it was ALWAYS on.  But he wouldn't let the pop version be our song it had to be the country version, it was a little better.  Soon John Michael Montgomery and Garth Brooks became favorites of mine (I was a little behind in the country music scene) and soon I began playing country music channels.  I now love Keith Urban, Phil Vassar "Another Day in Paradise", Brad Paisley "I'm Still a Guy", Rascall Flats and probably a few more.

Now my ipod is full of past and present music.  Now the music I listen to depends on the mood I am in. I still love my old songs and I still listen to church music.  I think music will always play a huge part in my life and I will continue to relate music to my life.  So, "Put Your Records on", "Don't Stop Belivin'", and Keep "Truckin'" along!
