I don't really have one specific thing to talk about, but a few moments in our family I thought I would share.
This year was the first year I hosted Thanksgiving dinner. I have to tell you, I think I really liked it. I didn't do it all by myself my mom did help out, a lot. I did make a mean stuffing and you can get the recipe here. My mom's family came so my grandma would have family around during Thanksgiving. The weather was crazy with blizzard warnings and I don't even know how many, many inches of snow we got so it was hard for people to get here. But they were brave. What's that saying, come hell or high water? Yea I think it was both but frozen water!
So that same weekend Danny was working and he was at a hotel waiting for an elevator. He turned to the woman standing next to him and said this is a very long elevator. She agreed. Then he heard a man's voice in the distance say, "my wife has left me I better go find her." The woman standing next to Danny called out, "No, I'm right here!" Around the corner walks Michael McLean. He is the man who wrote the Forgotten Carols and directed (maybe even wrote?) Mr. Kruger's Christmas, and other LDS music. So Danny says, "Michael McLean how are you?" They hopped on the elevator and had a conversation about when Danny sang the Homeless song with some other guys 10 years ago. Well Michael McLean invited Danny to the show and told Danny to bring his family backstage. So we went to the show and during intermission Danny said let's go backstage. He had to drag me back there because I knew they would say come back after the show, and if they didn't they would be annoyed we came back! Well if he was annoyed he didn't show us and he was so very nice to my kids. He told Isabelle she looked like a movie star, and she LOVED that! He signed my Forgotten Carols book and we had a fun time. I hadn't been in a very long time.
This Friday was our ward Christmas party and my committee and I were in charge. I worked all day and we were pleased with our efforts. However, I was NOT pleased with my children. I had one of those my kids can do that moments! They had people perform during dinner and my kids had a cute song Danny helped them learn last year for Christmas so I thought sign us up! Well I got busy doing other things so I took us off the program. Then, Santa was a little behind and we needed to fill the gap so I told the bishop we could do our song and dance. Grant and Will were very excited to perform, Isabelle did not want to perform with her brothers. Then we add microphones to the mix and it caused a complete disaster! Isabelle was holding the microphone mumbling the words, Grant was trying to take control of the microphone which ended up in major elbow throws to Isabelle. We started the song over and still they couldn't keep it together. I don't even think people knew what song they were trying to sing we didn't even make it to the chorus! Danny ended the song early. Not a shining moment for the music teacher and his wife who was in charge of the party! Really we wish we could of had it on camera we probably could win America's funniest Home Videos. (I can hear my mom laughing right now!) Guess who won't be asked EVER to be in any program? That's right, the Leavitt's! At least this Leavitt family.
The good thing is the church has done away with the Activity Committee so as of Sunday I am without a calling. Danny said, "Boy you must have done such a bad job the whole church is getting rid of that calling!" Funny. I'm really just hoping to enjoy the rest of this month make a few cookies, eat a few cookies, and buy a few presents. Bring on the Holiday's!
